Sometimes we wonder if we are cable of writing anything more than just a homework assignment, job proposal, or card invitation. I believe that if you get out of your comfort zone, you will find that you are capable of doing more than what you thought of. But what are the signs that help you realize you are a good writer?
You like to read
Not many people enjoy reading, but there are many who do. Just because you like to read doesn’t make you a writer; however, if you like to read, analyze books, or see yourself writing something as well, then that’s when your mindset will start to change. It’s the equivalent of a filmmaker watching movies and frequently making comments about the behind the scenes aspect of the movie, versus just enjoying the movie. If you’re a writer, you simply can’t help but to enjoy reading, analyzing what you are reading, and then reading some more.
You jot down notes, thoughts, quotes, lyrics & more
A writer will almost have an epiphany when things they hear speak to them monumentally. When you hear a certain quote or lyric from movies, songs, or books, you can’t help but to jot it down in your notes. And before you know it, you’ve created a long paragraph of things that really spoke to you, or ideas that you want to make sure you don’t forget. Thoughts and ideas are important. A big sign that you are a writer is if you simply feel the need to write everything down for your own personal reason. Especially if you can’t fall asleep because your mind is wandering around. And once you write everything down, you feel a huge weight lifted off your shoulder and able to fall asleep or move onto the next task.
Love sending long messages or emails
You might like calling, or texting people, but writer’s feel they need to explain everything in full detail in writing. I’m not saying writers don’t like speaking with people verbally, what I mean is instead of sending 1 or 2 messages, or a short email, writers will send long paragraphs and truly enjoy it. If you express yourself best in writing, then it’s safe to say that’s one of the signs you are a writer.
Curious about things & ask questions
Think of a writer as a reporter. You want to know the latest gossip, or learn new information about anything. Whether it’s watching a documentary and researching it online, or asking people questions about their life, hopes and dreams… it all means that curiosity gets the best of you & you feel the need to expand your knowledge with new information. Asking questions helps you be open-minded, engaged, and dig deeper in the spirit of honest information. You never want to make assumptions, that’s a mistake many make. Make sure to ask questions because it helps you improve your inquiry skills and formulate better solutions.

You believe you could be a good writer
There’s nothing better than manifesting something you want or know you can be good at. Affirmations and gratitude towards yourself are the best things you can do for the desires that you want. No one can ever tell you want you want to do, or what you need. Only you yourself knows the answers to your questions. If you truly believe that you could be a good writer, then guess what? You are a good writer. Face the challenges, take on the obstacles, keep practicing, keep writing. You will get better day in and day out. Something that really helps me personally is to recite my own affirmations I’ve written every single day, or any time I feel defeated. I challenge you to recite this affirmation every day, “I am a good writer”.
You continue to write
This is self-explanatory. What makes a writer is someone who continues to write as often as they can. Write whatever, whenever or however you want. If you can’t help yourself but to pick up a pen, or start typing, then there’s a pretty good chance you’re onto something. Unless you’re only writing for money, writers don’t write because they are being forced to. Good writers write for pleasure. That’s how you realize you are meant to be a writer, not because you have to, but because you want to. Start a blog, write in your diary for fun, create stories or screenplays, generate a poem or song! Any time you are ‘in the zone’ to write, is the best time to express yourself. These are the signs you are a writer. The more you write, the better you’ll get.
Just. Keep. Writing.
