Viterbo is a relatively warm small town in Pereira, Colombia. Its small size and about 14,000 inhabitants make it a peaceful and ideal location to just take a ride and relax for a 1-3 days on the available hotels located in the plaza.
I personally visit Viterbo frequently because I have a lot of family there. I’ve been going ever since I was a little girl. I’m familiar with many families there because throughout the years people tend to know their bloodline and who’s who… Sounds strange if you’re not from this culture; however, I’m telling you, this place is very welcoming. The road to this small town allows you to travel to other exciting locations including Cali, Manizales, and Medellin. Although Cali is quite far from Viterbo.

Before I get started, I want to inform you that you don’t necessarily need a car while you’re in this town. Mostly everything is walkable, if anything you’ll be walking max 5 miles to get to a destination, and you can also always take a taxi. If you’re planning on visiting one of my favorite pueblos (small towns), here is a list of the top things to do in Viterbo, Colombia.
Hotels to consider
I recommend you stay near the plaza simply because everything you need to get to is extremely close and walkable. There are very few hotels around the plaza but many are warm with great service. These are 3 that I personally suggest.
Hotel La Casona Viterbo
Strategically located within the town, this is the best hotel to consider. The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable, and has a sizeable parking spot for private use that is safe. The staff will treat you well and the customer care service is unmatched.
It’s not only me who was satisfied with the services in this hotel but also other visitors in Viterbo. You can confirm positive reviews from satisfied customers on the internet.
El Samán Viterbo
Another hotel with excellent service that you can consider for a peaceful night. Hotel El Saman is a nice and clean hotel with excellent service. This hotel is also located within Viterbo and you can access the town’s street easily.
Villa Julieth
This is a new lodging built further away from Viterbo CBD. The good road allows you to easily access the lodging from the Viterbo-Apia road.
The other 3-star hotel with good service is the Finca Robledal.
Yurupari Galeria De Arte Panesso
This is a small art museum that showcases different works of art. You will see paintings hung on the walls, sculptures, and religious collections (Jesus drawing and ancient Bishop items) from well-known artists/painters.

Restaurants
As you walk through the town, you should pause for lunch at some of the interesting joints. Here are 4 recommendations you need to try.
Restaurante El Molino
The good food and quality service in this hotel makes it among the best hotel alternative. The food is delicious and price is affordable. You can try different kinds of local foods in this restaurants. I had lunch and tasted delicious seasoning.
Pinillos Cocktail
This is a fast food joint that offers both western and local delicious menu. You can have burgers, fries, and hot dogs at fair prices. Also, tasty ready to drink cocktails are available. I personally took a glass of tasty coconut lemonade.
Cafeteria Los Motoristas
Taste authentic Colombian coffee in Cafeteria Los Motoristas. Located in the heart of the town, you should not miss to visit this café for breakfast.
There are also other restaurants in the town where you can have the best experience. However, I recommend the above because I have personally experienced a great time.

Shopping stores
Cersei Fashion
This is a shoe store that is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from the town’s central business district. You should take a walk to see what Viterbo has to offer. Use Calle 7 (tarmac road) to get to the shoe store.
Autoservicio Compare Aliado Super Inter
A supermarket that sells both household and secondary needs. You can buy refreshing drinks, sodas, and ice cream because it’s very hot in Viterbo during the day (by the way). Also, there are cooking spices in the supermarket if you intend to cook and taste some of the Colombian seasoning.
The service is nice and the staff are friendly.
Chat with locals in a bar
You can also chat with the locals and get to understand the Colombian culture. There are many small business owned bars located along the streets. Alcoholic beverages are very cheap and the locals are really friendly.
As I said before, a stay here for just 1-3 days is good. If I’m being honest with you, Viterbo is not a place you go to if you’re looking for a glamours lifestyle trip. The living lifestyle in Viterbo, Colombia is rustic, authentic, and humbling. Just the way I like it.
